Farland Chang is Professor of Practice at the School of Journalism & Communication, Nanjing University. He teaches International Reporting and Multimedia Storytelling, with a focus on mobile journalism, cross-cultural communication, and practical media production skills.

Chang is an Emmy Award–winning journalist and documentary producer with international reporting experience for CNN and NBC News. His professional work focuses on global storytelling, cultural exchange, and international communication.

His teaching emphasizes hands-on learning, combining journalistic principles with emerging digital tools to help students develop as globally minded communicators. Students in his courses produce video reports, multimedia projects, and personal storytelling portfolios that reflect real-world professional practice.

Chang is also Executive Producer of the documentary series East Meets West, developed in collaboration with National Geographic photographer Michael Yamashita. The series explores historical connections between Asia and the wider world through themes of travel, trade, and cultural exchange.
